How did you get caught?

I live in the country, but have been giving a lot of thought to my city dwelling friends problems, especially since we have 2 neighbors who moved out here to the middle of nowhere and expected to never see an animal, in a Mennonite community! They have been amusing themselves by calling the police at every turn to report our and the neighbors "starving" animals. The police come look at our fat and happy animals and leave.
Also hubby has had a couple of heart surgeries and can't help much with the poo shoveling so I have experience in ways to solve this problem. You need a small chicken tractor. So far I have 3 and a movable big coop. I built the last 2 for less than $6 dollars (that was for nails) and they aren't ugly, and I roll em around the yard and the chickens stay in and fertilize the yard. Most of my adults free range but these are for the bantums and babies. I built mine cheap by scouring work sites where new homes were going up and carting off the scrap. If you have a tractor it will keep your little flock safe from predators, and keep them from smelling, and keep them out of the public eye! Seriously if you're gonna go through the trouble of building coops and runs why not lesson your work load and get rid of the smell?

Hi all. We're new to BYC. I'm hoping someone will read this and have some advice. We live in San Diego and from what I've read so far, we are allowed to have chickens. However, our neighborhood has a home owners association which has determined chickens are not "common household pets". We were only planning to have three hens, one for each kid. I want to write a letter and find out why. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your time.

You will want to look up the Right To Farm Act in CA. I believe California has a similar one to MI, and if that is the case, you are in luck. Your home owners assoc. won't be able to bother you. If I find any info on it, Ill post a link for ya.
