How did you make your incubator?

So far I've only let my hens lay on my eggs, but I'm wanting to try to hatch them myself with better hatch rates. I've done tons of research on here about incubating so I know a lot. The only problem I'm having is actually constructing the incubator. I'm not quite ready to invest in an incubator as the chicks will be part of my personal flock and not for sale so I may not be using more than a few times. Can any one give advice and/or instructions on how they made their own successful incubator? I'm trying to spend as little as possible as well just in case I have no success.

Keep in mind, no matter how much research you have think you have done it is never enough. Building a reliable and functional homemade incubator is a task and a half, best of luck.

Oh yes I am fully aware of what I'm getting myself into lol. I stay on this forum everyday and am constantly learning new things. I've been researching for months. I wanted to make sure I had as much knowledge as possible before just jumping into it. I'm finally to the point where I feel comfortable enough to give it a try.

Nice. I have worked in the industry for a few years, still not ready to take on that task. Sounds like you are though, keep us updated with lots of pics.

Then what are you waiting for?! GET!!

I'm on the same page as you too, I only want to have a few chicks for my own keeping and can't see myself investing a few hundred dollars on an incubator just to use it once and be done with. Let us know how your project goes, a step-by-step detail, and plenty of pics. :)

I’m currently using An old fish tank. Pc fan, light bulb, digital and manual temp/hydro meter, cooling rack to lift the eggs up high enough up so water can go in the bottom with a anti slip mat on top, two jars with a dish sponge in each for water. I use two straws connected together and a Little funnel to add water during lock Down. Whole thing apart from two viewing sections is covered that foil they use for heating people up. I have just ordered a thermostatically controlled power unit for under Β£7 so that will control my temp automatically when it arrives rather than me manually.

I’m planning on converting an old bathroom unit into An incubator and see how that goes.
