How different are turkeys in relation to chickens?

i was thinking that blackhead was an issue in warmer states where it doesn't get cold enough to kill off the prozoans that cause the disease?>? In canada i would think it's cold enough not to be an issue. This year is my first time with a turkey, raising it with my chicks...
  1. have enough room before you embark on a turkey - as their growth rate is incredibly fast and if you're not ready, they'll outgrow a chicken tractor or something like that before you're prepared.
  2. with the higher protien feed, i just let my chicks eat it too. so far they're fine.
  3. slightly higher temps - watch the poults - they'll tell you what they need Huddling or escaping from the heat as mentioned above)
  4. the turkey is alot nicer than the chickens. he's interesting to watch - not as timid as the chickens are and it's pretty cool to go out and hold your 15 pound bird (at 9 weeks!) thats totally happy just being held
  5. remind yourself everyday that he's food and not a pet - if thats your intent
  6. if you have kids, be prepared to take him to school - turkeys are quite the rockstar at an elementary school
