How dirty is too dirty?

Thank you all so much for your support, I really appreciate the expert opinions!

I have another question. I had mentioned one of the eggs was damp when I unwrapped it like it had oozed little albumin in shipping. I let them set for 12 hours then just placed them in the incubator. That one egg has sweated some more, and it looks amber as it dries, like albumin when it dries. Anyone know what going on here? Is this one likely a goner? Normal for a porous egg?

Any advice and wisdom is greatly appreciated!

Its in the center back.

I would definitely pull out any egg that is leaking. It is likely to explode in a couple weeks and ruin the other eggs, and make a big mess for you to clean up in the incubator.

I don't wash my hatching eggs. There is 2 eggs in my incubator right now that has that amount of dirty on them and yet they are thriving just fine. That egg that is leaking I would toss.

Totally agree with the others, get the weeping one out now before it does become a time bomb. I just read your thread and my first thought was I wouldn't have set the one that seemed damp on the outside. You live and learn. At least you got good advice before it became a problem. BTW those eggs were pretty clean compared to the ones that I got a little over a week ago. I actually appreciate that the seller did not wash them first. Mine had a lot of mud on them (Brahma eggs and mud season, go figure) so I did take a damp paper towel and gently wiped most of the mud off and patted dry. I tried to find a happy medium between the chance of the mud causing problems and possibly taking some of the bloom off causing problems. So far, a lot of the eggs are developing so I think your hatch will go great! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies--I will crack it and check out the innards. Is that an egg-topsy?

I cracked it and the shell wasn't thin (I think I assumed that it would be porous because it was weeping). The yolk was maybe a little larger than I expected but I don't normally crack 100 degree eggs. It was fertile which bodes I well for the rest of the clutch, at least.

Still not sure why the albumin was leaking out, though. You all are right--I can't risk 11 others for the hope that the 12th would be ok. I just needed some friends telling me to do what I knew was the best thing to do from the start.
