Hi,

My hen was sitting on 5 eggs and so far 4 of them are hatched already. The first chick was hatched 2-3 days back. Today I found one of the newly born chick died I am not sure whats the exact cause. Question is when there are some newly born chickens and the hen is still sitting on remaining eggs is she feeding the new chicks or she don't care?

Bcoz I m thinking may be the cause of the death of one of the newly born chick is hunger!

Can someone please explain it? Do I need to do something special to feed the chicks or Mother will take care of them?

thanks
C.

Newborn chicks are eating off the rest of the yolk they absorbed into their tummies. This is good for a couple of days but it is easy enough to get your little chick babies started on chick feed.
You may also include chick grit to help them digest.

I have found that my chicks will absolutely devour chick crumble that has been wetted down lightly with water, then gently microwaved.
