How do Green Egg Genes Work?

Quote:
It's fairly safe to assume that you will get green eggs from that cross.

Genetically green eggs are the blue eggs and brown eggs at the same time.

Since EE's are mixed already it's hard to be sure, but at most you will get ABOUT 25% single combs (and thus brown layers). The probability is quite good that you will get all pea combs and green eggs.

Good luck!

drom I have friends in the Aburn area that humor me by bringing me eggs to hatch. They have 1 EE roo and various breeds of hens.

Anywho, my first hatch started to lay. The pullet from a pink egg is laying blue, the pullet from a mint green egg is laying turquoise and the pullet from a brown egg is laying green. I also have a younger batch EE girls from the same stock and they are laying green and turquoise. They are averaging 6 eggs/week and they have only been laying for less than a month.

If you want I can PM you their info and I am sure they would be willing to test out their egg packing/shipping skills. If you are local to that area maybe you can even pick them up.

Dont know how I forgot to metion this in the first post but your Marans eggs are gorgeous!!

Haha maybe we can trade LOL

Thank you!
Well, I am really happy with the eggs my Marans lay, but they are still a work in progress. They are good egg show birds but not show quality in terms of the standard. I am working on egg color right now and not really focusing on the standard for feather color as much. That's one of the reasons why I don't sell my eggs.

Turquoise

Yep, every chick I've hatched of theirs (30 at this point) including the roos have only had peacombs.

Here is one shot of a light olive green and a blue egg

and here's one of my green ones

And my turquoise ones. In the sunlight they look turquoise, and in the house they look varioius shades of blue and green depending on the light source.
