How do hatcheries hatch chicks?

Quote:
My question was specific but I have found that people often don't really read the question and instead respond with "pat" answers based on their own knowledge.

You asked how they hatched them, the answer I gave is how they hatch them.

ETA: I don't know what you mean by 'pat' answers, but mine was not, I can assure you. I answered the question the best way I could, with what was asked.

No, I have no intention of hatching at this point. As my question and subject line stated, I was "curious" about how they do it. Actually, I still am! The hatching forum is full of posts about chicks that have hatched early or late - so hatcheries that can guarantee their chicks hatch in the "wee hours of Monday morning" must be doing something different, and I am curious to know what that is.

i have wondered that too..how they can time it so perfectly. i think it is all pretty amazing though.

Like tazcat said...it's all in the timing....if you're a chick that hatches on time you get shipped out, if you're a chick that hatches late, you don't.

The hatching forum is full of questions like that because most of us don't have huge, commercial incubators. Our incubators are just 'normal'. Also, there are a lot of amateurs that post in the hatching forum, that are still learning. Most times, if I set an egg in the incubator, I can expect it to hatch (if it's going to) 21 days later. Sometimes I get a surprise, but not very often. Usually my 'early birds' are species that I have not hatched before, so I haven't perfected my technique.

Once you perfect your technique on hatching, it is easy to set them and anticipate the hatch date. I can almost time my own hatches down to a 6 hour period. Not that difficult once you have it down to a science.
