how do i check a thermometer for accuracy?

i have a thermometer from a gqf that i would like to make sure is reading correctly. any tips?

Does it have a probe? If so I filled a cup with just slightly warm water and put the probe next to a regular thermometer you would use to check for fever and compared results.
