i'I've always wondered how do you keep a pair of chickens such as one roo one hen without the rooster messing up the hen and having to build another pen for the rooster?

Put a saddle on the hen. When the roo mates her, he won't tear up her feathers.

Basic saddle, I make mine out of an old blanket that doesn't fray when I cut it.
