I am trying to find an economical heat source for my bucket watering system. It is the type that has the "nipples" on the bottom. I really don't want to spend $50.00 on a heat ring! I have read that you can use a fish tank heater on a timer. I am wondering if this is a good idea? Any other suggestions?

I haven't tried a fishtank heater so, I can't tell how that would work. I already have 5 gal bucktes with nipples for all my chickens so, I duct taped foil insulation on the top and sides and put birdbath heaters in them. I spent 31.00 on each heater and hoping I will get several years use out of them

Good Luck.
