how do I feed oyster shells?

If your hens on layer feed they don't need supplemental calcium unless you start seeing problems with the egg shells. Layer feed has calcium added in it.

I have a separate feeder connected to the wall they free feed out of, less waste.

I borrowed an idea from someones picture on here. Just got an end cap for PVC piping. It looks like a 4 inch wide bowl, about 2 1/2 inches deep. It is made from sturdy material, so it won't get trashed. I screwed it onto the wall at chicken head level and put the oyster shell in there. Seems to be working. If they want some, they eat some. If not, they don't. I keep it away from the action area of the pellet feeder and it seems to be staying clean.
