HOW DO I GET MY CHICKENS TO LIKE ME?

All of these suggestions are great. I spent 1-2 hours a night holding and playing with my girls when they were chicks; I let them sleep in the palm of my hand and cuddle up next to my chest for warmth. They didn't get treats until they were 4-6 weeks old or older.

Just sit with them and talk so that they get used to the sound of your voice. Mine know my "happy" and "unhappy" chicken voices and usually heed whatever I'm saying, it seems.

Just act predictably and move slowly so that they know what you're doing.

I too was a little surprised how "chicken" my young chicks were and how they hated to be picked up. At 9 weeks now, they jump onto my knees, sit down and relax with me (after they've eaten the snack I've given them).

My husband and I have made an evening routine of sitting on milk crates (what would we do without them) and just letting the pullets come to us. When I pick them up to take them off my knees they still let out a squawk but I want them to get use to being held, if even for a moment.

Have fun and enjoy your chicks!
