How do I get my male coturnix quail to stop crowing in the morning!?

Heck it mighta worked...pulled a guineas head out of a water bottle today...didn't seem to phase it much...can't believe I didn't take a picture.

What was really gettin me in my sick mind, was imagining a bird wearing one, trying to peck, his head would keep bouncing back...

I actually figured out a way for them to shut up! At night, I put my quails in the garage, which is really dark. They don't crow at all when they're in the garage!

I bring mine into my porch at night and it cut down on the crowing by 95%

And, also, is it OK for quails to eat a bit of hardened, dry, 2-year-old frosting from an old gingerbread house? One of my quails got out of its cage, and it snuck out and started eating the frosting... :/ I think he was eating for about 5 seconds before I caught him. But, still, is it OK for them to eat a bit of frosting?

I think he was eating for about 5 seconds before I caught him. But, still, is it OK for them to eat a bit of frosting?

Probably. I've seen them eat plastic on several occasions with no ill effects.
