The more "meat essence" in the poop, the better it will work. And the worse it smells. Rotting flesh would work even better. Fish guts too!

I'm doing it now and the temps....well at least the humidity is HIGH! Not everybody is made for Texas, lol. I've even met some Texans that would rather live in cold. I'm thankful that everybody likes different places otherwise Texas couldn't hold everyone, lol. Although I tell all my friends and family, who live out of state, that everybody will be in Texas once in their life....when everybody dies, the first rung of the ladder to Heaven is in TexasLeighe, did you use Dog poop or chicken poop?
How bad was the smell?
I guess I should have asked what the temps were in TX when you did this?
I tell you I DO NOT MISS TX heat. Live in Ennis for 2 years.
Ummm never thought of fish guts but Williams Quinn did use chicken and it got less flies then the poop one...the gallons were side by side. But death will certainly bring a lot of interesting varmints....ask any corpse farm, lolThe more "meat essence" in the poop, the better it will work. And the worse it smells. Boy....not sure how to reply to this. Yes I believe it reduces the amount of flies around the coop, but certainly there are more flies as flies are highly sexual, lol. However, any dead fly, imo, is a good fly. Will I ever be rid of flies? First: No, God keeps making them, I have to keep killing them. Second: Probably not as long as I'm doing something natural rather then chemical, though better for the chickens. My babies are free range so they aren't stuck in the coop or run/pen area. But wherever they poop, flies will be there.I'm interested to hear if the traps reduced amount of flies around your coops and such. .. It seems to me like for every fly you would trap it would also attract more to your yard. .my neighbor used to put out Japanese beetle traps and in that case it just brought in so so many more than we had to begin with it wasn't worth it. Wouldn't it be the same with flies?
If it works I'll be making some for sure! I'll let you all be the guinea pigs lol![]()
Geez, I've walked into those strips so many times, it was voted by every hair on my head that I am not allowed to use those strips anymorethe fly population definitely went down significantly last summer when we employed the traps and again this year when I put the fly paper out, though I did use 8 strips all at once :~(), all over the place and this morning my daughter decided it would be a good idea to let one of the hens out and then thought it would be a good idea to chase it. I was woken with it in her arms next to my face with a strip of fly paper wrapped around it's wing with her trying to explain that "there was a problem and that it was "on accident"...
How close to your coop is your placement? If it would actually draw flies away from my ducks pen I might wanna try it. I've been having to feed less more often because any leftover feed just gets swarmed with flies! There is more on the feed than on the poo it seems like. I just worry about making it worse. And I'm like you I don't want to use chemicals around my birds.Boy....not sure how to reply to this. ha ha, well I don't have any hair left for that to be a problem, LOL! the thing that weighs on me heavily is the thought of a city inspector with a clip board walking around looking for things to ding me for, I just don't need that. part of the reason the smell bothers me so much is that I worry that it bothers my neighbors, then I stress about mr inspector. neighbors are ruthless around here and the city just seems to live off of the violation revenue. I've heard of one thing leading to another leading to another, enough to want to stay way ahead of my neighbors. If I was on a large lot, not 10,000 sf, I wouldn't have to worry, but the good jobs are near the city so here we are, with neighbors practically just a few feet in every direction.Geez, I've walked into those strips so many times, it was voted by every hair on my head that I am not allowed to use those strips anymore![]()
