How do I get silkies to lay in eggboxes

A few days ago, my silkies began laying eggs. But not in the nesting boxes.
Those cute little eggs are sitting smack on the floor, surrounded by poo.
How do I get them to lay in the nesting boxes instead of the floor?

You could try using some golf balls in the nest. That seems to work well for many people.

Mine laid on the floor also. I put a covered cat litter box in their house and filled it with shavings and they use that now. I have also used milk crates and set them on the floor. I got the impression that my girls didn't want to jump up high to use the boxes so now the staging area is ground level.

thanks for all the tips, and our nesting boxes are like three inches off the ground, so I'm puzzled. The golf and 'egg' ideas rock and I have seen people use milk crates very successfully too. I'll try them all.
