I hatched this "pure bred" splash silkie and it's wings are red. What would I breed it to in order to breed the red out? Or is it possible?

I've been seeing this a lot in BBS birds. I have a splash cochin with the same issues. He will pass it on- but you won't know until the offspring are almost mature. It can happen in hens, but for some reason seems more common in roos. Your best bet is to get another rooster- they aren't too hard to come by.

It should not happen in birds who have been bred properly. I agree that I would sell it as a wonderful pet silkie for someone and buy some eggs from someone who breeds their silkies pure for color.

I got these eggs from a "reputable" breeder. (BYC'er) Was quite shocked when it's wings started turning red! Of course it's my husbands favorite! Now I can't get rid of it since he finances most of my chicken habit!!

While things do come up time to time that might be a surprise this is something you should mention to whoever you got the eggs from. They are going to want to rework some things in their breeding pen to avoid this in the future.

There is an thread somewhere recently where even Tuffoldhen (who has AWESOME birds) said that it can show up in the best lines.
I also got my cochins from a well known breeder with amazing birds. It just happens. You can still use him to breed pet quality chicks, but then the problem will be passed on to other people too. I feel for ya. You invest all that time and love into a bird....
