How do I get them to lay in the boxes?

Afew of our chickens still aren't laying in the nest boxes. We've tried the fake eggs, golf balls ect... but we are still finding eggs on the floor and behind the door of the coop. I tried physically putting them in but they won't let me get close enough to pick them up. I could try putting another box behind the door, but I don't think that would help. I guess I should be glad they don't lay outside the coop. Any more suggestions?

I use wooden egg bought at Micheals or AC Moore. These can be washed and will need to be on occasion. Rocks might result in a broken egg, wouldn't it? I keep one in each box. You do need to show them the box or might need to. They like a dark and secluded place.

I've tried everything.....keeping them in the coop late, rubber eggs, picking them up and plonking them in the egg boxes.....and still they choose the hedge.

If anyone has a definitive solution.......PLEASE let me know.
