i have a problem. i am trying to raise bantams from a basic start (breeding pair). i find my bantams eggs while they are still warm and put them on a incubator, i turn them i candle them and they grow up until around the last 2 weeks, then they die for no apparent reason and i keep them on the incubator for another week (just to be sure) but they are dead i really would like some help here's some stats on what i use:
a heating pad (i looked it up and it could work as a incubator)
phoenix chicken bantams
what am i doing wrong?

Do you know the temp and humidity? You could very well be baking them in the shell from too much heat or drowning them from too much humidity.

We prepped a brooder nursery, you know with the heat lamp, feeders, water, and shavings. Our incubator was the hen herself. Checking daily for hatching, we would remove them and put them into the brooder. First we waited for two chicks to transfer just for company then the rest as they hatched. There were 11 eggs and 11 hatched over 2 weeks and 11 chicks are growing. Here's a pic of the hens and some of her chicks reunited after a few weeks.

There are several things I can see going wrong here. Too much or too little heat. Too much or too little humidity. How are you even controlling humidity? Are you turning the eggs an odd number of times everyday? Is your breeding pair in good condition? Are they older? Are you turning the eggs while you're collecting them (before you start incubating)? Have the eggs been exposed to high or low temps before/during incubation?

There are TONS of things that can effect a hatch, and if you have no way to actually control temp and humidity, you may be pretty disappointed with the results. Eggs can be hatched with unorthodox methods, but they are usually exceptions, not the rule. Good luck.
