How do I keep my chickens out of my garden?

4 ft is a piece of cake for chickens, my run is 6 feet and I have only had 1 chicken get out. Though, she got a running start and climbed up the fence! With clipped wings! My chickens fly 4 ft up easy with clipped wings, even the buff Orpingtons!
don't tell my girls they can do this. my fence is only about 5 ft and clipped. it has worked for a while.'

Wow, I guess I am really lucky then because I grow almost all my own food and I let my chickens out to free range and my wire fences around my veggies are only 3 feet high. I just put metal stakes in the ground and chicken wire around the areas.View attachment 1801088View attachment 1801089
I just use chicken wire so they can pick through the fence and I don’t mind if they do that. There is plenty to go around. I just make sure I throw a lot of seeds out before it rains.

I read deer fence is best. They can't see the top. I'm going to try it next Spring on some planters.

Make sure there isn't anything they can hop on to give them a bit more height to jump over.
I was having a coffee watching the coop from my house and I noticed one of my hens hop on top of the small coop, back up to the edge and take a running jump to make it over the fence. After all the chickens noticed everyone started trying, had to move it back a few feet lol!

I've used bird netting around my small garden. I only protect the tomato plants for the season but the pepper, cucumber and egg plants are good after they reach a certain height. Just use stakes and wind the netting around secure with zip ties.
