How do I keep my chickens warm during the winter?

silkies generally do not roost, with their big crests and beards their vision is obscured- they usually pile up in a corner on the floor. I hope they let the banties join them. You may want to ask questions on the Silkie thread - too see if others in your area need to use a heat source in winter. Our climate can be quite severe maybe yours is much nicer

I live in Ohio and it can get cold but I also have a field behind the barn that blows right into the barn. Should I block off the vent on that side?

Thank you all for the information. I am new at this chicken owner thing. I love them so I don't want them to die. This will be the first winter that I have them. My others I got in late winter but they were chicks so they were inside under a heat lamp. Now they are way to big for that. So far the banny likes the silkies. They play together and eat together plus she is about their size so it's not so scary. She a pretty good banny.
