How do I know my chick trusts me?

Hi everyone 👋
so i have a 3 week old chick that is always jumping on my hand when i spot clean or if i put my hand in the cage none of the other chicks do that. Also i have play time with them i will sit with them while they play and the same chick (Penelope) will always jump on my shoulder. Do you think she trusts me and is bonded with me?

She’s definitely the friendliest of your group and clearly wants to be closer to her Mama Chicken. And that’s partly due to her personality.

My Hattie (RIR now 2 years old) loved being close to me since she was little. She’d jump up onto the edge of the brooder to see me, and when her flock was old enough to go outside, she’d opt to hang out/snooze in my lap when her sisters were scratching around.

My CiCi (a 1 year old Buckeye) has been the friendliest chick I have ever raised. She was constantly making happy chick noises (do you know how to distinguish the different chick sounds and what they mean?) and was a ball of endless, happy, curious energy and loved sitting on me.

To this day, Hattie likes to come sit in my lap and will even climb as high as she can and lean into me, stretching her neck over my shoulder. CiCi likes to jump in my lap and cuddle her head under my arm. She’ll then ‘purr’ and even fluff up and act like she’s sunbathing 😅. And these are just two of my loviest girls. Most of my chickens want to sit in my lap and get attention. It gets super crowded sometimes!

Here are some pictures (CiCi when she was little and now, and Hattie now). So, keep interacting with them and talking to them. I happen to be obsessed with chickens so to me spending time with them is therapy 🥰.

She is pretty! my chick that is always jumping on me is a GC and here is a picture of her. Also if I offer my hand to her to come out of the cage she will jump on it and then she’ll stay on till I put her back on my lap and then she will sit on my lap she also jumps on the top of the brooder every time I open the cage

@CalBickieMomma - I see you sit in your coop with your chickens. I see you put a blanket/towel on your lap. I see you hold your chickens. I see your chickens love you.

You are my people. :love

That’s exactly what my chick does she will sit in my lap and act like she’s sunbathing!

There are all sorts of chicken people. Some who just want the eggs/meat; some who want the pretty flock, some who want them as pets, and some who want all of these things. While I am a first time chicken owner, I can tell you that it's okay to want all of these things and I think it's really a good thing to have your chickens "bond" to you. While raising them, I had breakfast, lunch, and "Cocktails with Chickens" with mine. And now, my 11 chickens always come when called in from free-ranging. Whether it's because I see danger. because it's "Cocktail time" or because I simply want them to get into the coop for the night. Of my 11, only 1 - my blue splash Orpington "Eggatha" - does not like to sit on my lap for a scritch behind the ear. She isn't fond of me holding her but she tolerates it if I need to do an inspection. She's a sweetie and a faithful egg layer. My first favorite has to be my Austra White named "Sally Chicken." As a chick, she would fall asleep on my lap while being petted and a year later still does. My second favorite is my buff Orpington named "Pancake." She will jump on my lap and reach over my shoulder for a hug. She's broody now but she will not bite me when I go to pull her from the nest box (at least she hasn't yet). Some people think it's weird to treat them as pets but others think it's so cool when I can call for them and they come, or when kids are here and they can hold and pet a chicken. There are a few risks, too. Try eating your lunch outside, or sitting with friends. Those chickens will be on you in a heartbeat. Still, I think their good nature is worth having to shoo them off. Have fun!

Totally. Some people might try to tell us that we ‘shouldn’t’ let our chickens sit/jump on us, but I say, for each his own! It’s totally up to the Chicken Tender how they want their flock to turn out :love .
Also, my Hattie does what your Pancake does :wee.
