How do i put down a hen, humanely

As with any idea topic or way we all have our ways & opinions...we all are not going to agree on what the right way is, we have to choose what is the way for us as with anything in life... I am sorry some don't agree in the way I choose but it was quick, no struggle, and has been what works well for at the time in my circumstance.... some will understand...

Oh I know, I'm not mad or anything, just more warning what I've noticed gone wrong with that method. If it sounded like I was ranting I wasn't, I'm just really bad at wording things in a not-so-gruff manner sometimes lol.

No worry, I am not like that lol... I speak in general and to others who may not agree... I don't know what I will have to face or choose the next time... I take it as it comes...I live my feathered friends & would cause no harm...

I read that the most humane way to kill a chicken is actually with a thin knife. Quickly insert the knife through the mouth straight back. This pierces the brain and spinal column, killing them instantly, and supposedly paralyzing them as well. I havent tried it myself, it seems a little too up close and personal to me...

Many folks cannot use the option of having a vet euthanize their sick/injured chickens. The cost can be prohibitive and it can also prolong the suffering & add to the stress of a chicken already at their limit. Often it takes extra time to transport the chicken to the vet's office and keep it waiting in the lobby for attention. Even if your vet is nearby and you can afford their fees, it's best to have another plan in mind in case you ever have an injured chicken needing immediate relief from its suffering.

Here are my methods:

Chicks (had to do one last week, was born with a fixed joint in the leg and couldn't walk): In as clsoe to one motion as I can make it I tilt the head back and pull the head up sharply. It breaks the neck and the chick might quiver a little however it is gone.

Adults: One of two ways- either chop off the head, or rap the bird FIRMLY on the back of the head to knock it out and quickly either break the neck or chop off the head. With geese and turkeys I knock them out first because I can then handle them more easily and I don't miss.

Well, we just got home. its dark outside and we went into the hen house and there she was in the nest, sitting on someones eggs. i lifted her off and she was plastered with her very weak shell and yoke all over her. i handed her to my husband, he let the door close and as i was getting the eggs of the day (my oldest didn't do it today) he opened the door and said it was already done. less than 20 seconds. i hadn't even finished gathering the eggs of the day and it was over. He told her, he was sorry and then did what he had to do. He said this is the only part of farming that everyone hates to do. (cull due to illness, not food)
thanks for all your support. your a great bunch of people.
Have a Blessed rest of your day
