How do i stop rooster from attacking dachshund?

My roo for some reason keeps attacking my boy dachshund without a reason. He wont attack the girl dachshund or my boy mutt. So how can i train him to stop attacking the poor dog?

I don't have an answer to that, because my rooster is one reason MY dachshund no longer tries to chase and kill chickens.

The roo doesn't attack him any more - they stay away from each other. The dog can walk amongst the chickens without bothering any of them.... He keeps his head and tail down.

I think your rooster is smart! But that's just me.

lol well he used to chase the chickens when we first got them but now he leaves them alone. He actually stopped bugging them way before the rooster started attacking him. Now my rooster attacks him when he gets too close to his girls and other times he will run across the yard to attack him when he is peeing. I just dont want either one to get hurt cause a couple of times the roo lost a big chunk of feathers near his neck and i can only imagine if my dog would have got him around the neck.

Probably your only option is to keep the dog and the rooster separated.

If I were a rooster, I would never trust a dachshund. Sounds like you have a smart roo.

There are plenty of folks on the forum who have had their doxies kill chickens. . . Godsgrl probably has the best advice!

My pullets gang up on our dachshund, too. They surround him, and he lowers his head and tail and looks at me helplessly. I go get him and bring him in the house.

I don't trust him with them, because if one pecks him, he will retaliate and I will have a dead or badly injured chicken. The are all (the 7 pullets, the doxy, our elderly shortair pointer/brittany cross, and elderly golden retreiver). Today the sh pointer came over to me while I was holding one of the Delaware girls and whined to be allowed to go back in because the "bad chickies are scaring me." He might take someone's head off too, so they aren't out there with the girls unsupervised.

My doxie has to go out on a lead because if he just goes out on his own he will kill chickens, He got a couple littleones when I first got chickens and he has been a dope on a rope since.

Maybe your rooster read my story of my neighbor's two dachsunds going on a killing spree at my place. Those little vicious wieners killed 3 before I found them and chased them off. Word get's around in the chicken community.

I wish I had your problem. My lil dachsund is the worlds best chicken hunter. I need something to try and break her. For any out there that says get a game it didn't work either.

My aunt's dachund chases and KILLS her neighbors chickens. You'd think those 'harmless' little dogs wouldn't have the ability to do such a thing. But they're just about as good of a chicken killer as you can get! Theres really no way you can 'train' a rooster. They normally don't respond to training

Just keep them away from each other. Your blessed that it ain't the other way around!
