How do I teach my chickens to refill watering cups on their own?

I have 6 chickens ranging in age from 5 weeks to 9 weeks. They seem to be doing well. When I moved them outside I kept their other watering containers in the run for a week or so until they started drinking out of the automatic chicken watering cups. This is the only water source they have had now for about 2 weeks. They drink from them just fine the problem is that they do not refill them. I have been going out there every few hours and pushing the lever to refill them, they all come running so I can tell they are thirsty when I do refill them. It is about 100 degrees during the day so I don't want them to get dehydrated but we are going out of town in a few weeks and they need to learn to refill the cups on their own for when we are gone. Any tips? Are they too young to refill them on their own? Should I just stop refilling them and let them figure it out?
