i want to be able to let my chickens out of their coop during sunny days but im dont know how to get them back in the coop in the afternoon....how do i teach them to come back to the coop?

Fill a cup or small plastic container with scratch or sunflower seeds, shake the cup and drop a few to catch their attention, they will learn to run to you when you shake the cup and you can lead them to the run. They learn to associate that sound with treats and will follow you anywhere.

My chickens react to the mikey mouse cup I serve scratch out of LOL .

I use different cups and containers when I take treats - but I just have to yell "CHICK CHICK CHICK" and they go NUTS - run from ALL directions!

My chickens go back into the coop on their own at dusk. As long as they've lived in the coop for several weeks, they associate that as their safe place and will return there just before dark.

I agree that if you need to find a way to get them in at other times, the treats often work altho I will warn you that the 'smart' chickens catch on to that trick after a while and learn not to come running if they get shut in every time.
