How do I train my husky to not kill my chicks?

Greyhounds have an extremely strong prey drive, and mixing that with a retriever wouldn't help at all. Definitely keep the dog away from any future chickens, unless she's behind a fence/on a harness that you know can contain her. The way chickens flap when they run, I'm surprised more things don't try to chase them.

I wonder if she might like to chase a bundle of feathers that was on a string behind a remote control car? Kind of like the lures they use in greyhound racing. Or she'd probably be good mouse/rat control if you dug the rodents out of hiding for her.

Huskys have a pretty strong prey drive. We once found a hen in the street, and I only had it for 8 days before the neighbor's husky crawled under the fence and killed it. That dog got a full on round house kick to the chest when it was jumping up trying to get my cat out of my hand a little while later.

Anyway, it may be too late now that your dog has already killed a chicken. When we first got our lab/shepard mix, she had never seen a cat before and chased ours. With enough yelling, my wife cured her of that behavior in three days flat. Now I leave her outside during the day to protect the flock.

Here she is today with the new birds I picked up to integrate into my flock. Wish it was as easy to integrate with my chickens and ducks as it was with my dog.

She's a fantastic mouser. Chipmunks are her specialty tho.

She would go nuts chasing a remote control car pulling a fake critter behind it. Might be a way to wear her out, lol
