This is Captain. I found him like this today. I don't know if he's been stung by a yellow jacket, has a respiratory problem or has a gape worm. Any thoughts? We treated him with Rx for respiratory. (side note: had his sister die Monday. Don't know why but she was panting a lot the day before she died) The knot is on his face below his eye. But his eye is so swollen he can barely see.

Thank you

You would have to have a blood sample taken to determine for sure if he has myco. There is no treatment, however. It is very contageous and infected birds will be carriers for life.

Does he have any other respiratory symptoms? Runny nose? Watery eyes? Strange breathing?

I hope that you can figure it out and get him to feeling better.

Thank you for responding. That was my best guess. I have checked the other flock, and they seem fine. We immediately started antibiotics. My husband brought him in, we cleaned his eye (it is watery but not yellow puss or worms). He swabbed the inside of his mouth and rubbed the Rx on the roof of his mouth. It said that infection would run out of his eye, but it didn't. We quarantined him. He's in the chicken tractor. Put medicine in his water. He was still alive this morning, but his eye looks the same. I feel like I am going to vomit. I am so overwhelmed.

He is not panting. The little hen that died Monday was panting pretty bad. Don't see him sneezing. I can't believe I am telling you this, but I actually prayed about it. I am so attached to these chickens. At the time, I was thinking "Amy, I can't believe you are actually praying about a chicken."

Hun, I always pray for mine. Do a search on here for "Mycoplasma", "mg", etc... and that may give you an idea of what else you can do to help him get over this.

After one day of treatment for respiratory, he still has the bump but it has gone down to where he can see again. He is not lethargic. He is eating and drinking. Not sneezing. Not runny. He does have a watery eye. Still have him quarantined.

it can be many different Respiratory disease but I will thirst treat it with tripple sulfa or teramycin in water or via dosage in the crop if there is no improvement over 5 to 6 days and it is still the same or worse change over to tylosin product but The bad news is when you end up with tylosin the changes is good for MG
