I know the quality isn't the greatest. I've had these eggs under a broody hen and regrettably didn't note the first day. I moved the Hen to a private pen thinking the eggs are close, and she kicked them out of the nest and refused to sit on them; so I put her back in the main coop with the eggs and now she's sitting on them again. I'm just worried they got too cold over night; there is minimal movement -- but still there is some. I'm just going to leave them alone now and see if they hatch. How old does this one look to you? I candled it on the 12th and it was clearly developing. I thought they'd be around 20 days by now, but comparing to photo's on google it looks more like 14 days to me.. Thoughts? This is my first hatch :( These are both the same egg; different sides of the egg with the air sac on the bottom.

To me, that's looking around 17-18 days old. I don't think its older than that, and probably not younger. My 14 day old eggs usually aren't that black.

Thanks for the input! I checked them all tonight.. curiosity. All were very active, however one looked like this... You can clearly see the air sac, and then there was a little 'thing' poking into it in one spot and it was moving a bit.. is it possible it's foot broke the air sac, or is that it taking it's first breaths? You can see the "thing" to the right.. sorry for the crappy photo!

Here are better photo's taken with my actual camera.

These photos show that your chicks have probably broken into the air cell with their beaks. The shadowing in the lighter part of the egg is the beak and parts of the body as the chick gets ready to hatch. It may be a few days still before they hatch-- chickens often internal pip about 24 hours before hatching, and may take some time even after externally pipping.

As a piece of advice, I'd stop candling the eggs now. You may disrupt the hatching process.
