How do u know if a hen is broody

What are sighns of a hen going broody ? and if one goes how do u slip fertile eggs underneath her? and i heard they dont sit till like 12 right? should i put some fake eggs in the nesting box and then when she sets put some in under her? idk

Golf balls may work but it really more of a hormone thing. Check the coop at night, if shes on the nest shes probably sitting an you can give her the eggs ya want her to hatch.
