how do u make a self blue/ lavender

i really love the lavender/ self blue color in all chickens,... but i dont have any AND IT KILLS ME !!!

. sooo i really want a lavender/ self blue:sultan ,cochin ,and white crested polish. any idea on what to breed to wat??

You can't just make it, you have to breed it in from a breed that already has it, and it can be a bit difficult and take several year to breed it in and then get the correct type in the breed you want. But basicly you find a breed that is already lavender and closest in type to the breed you want to create the lavender color in, and breed the lavender bird to a black bird of the desired breed and that will give all black ( split lavender, carrying only one copy of the lav gene.) chicks, the cross those chicks together and about 25% of them should be lavender, then cross the best lavs from that cross to the pure black breed you are wanting and that will start you over again and keep doing it until you get the correct type. BTW There are already lavender cochins so you would be much better off just buying them.

So to RAREROO or anyone else that knows the Lavender genetics, So what your saying is I could cross a Self-Blue Cochin to Black Marans and then take the offspring that hatched and breed them together to create a self-blue crossing?

Breeding lavender to black will result in all black offspring that carry 1 lavender gene (black splits). Breeding that offspring back to lavender will produce 50% lavender and 50% splits.

Lavender x Black = 100% Black split for lavender (each carries 1 lavender gene)

Lavender x Black split = 50% Lavender, 50% Black split for lavender

Thats what you would get if you crossed the chicks from the first cross.

You could breed the offspring together to get these results, or breed them back to the lavender parent to get the 50/50 results I posted. Either way the crosses will produce mixed breeds.and it will take several to many generations to produce birds true to the type you want (crested, clean legged) breeds.
