We just put our 2 and 3 week olds in a chicken tractor and last night we had to get them out of the bottom and put them into the top at 9pm. Then this morning I had to stick my hand into the top and give them all a push down the stairs.
How do we teach them to go up and night and down in the mornings? Any special tricks or will they pick this up in time?

Thanks

Well, in the next couple of weeks they will start to go up and down the ladder whenever they feel like it
and you will come to the realization that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that you can teach a chicken.

That's good to know, thank you very much

So in the meantime I need to keep helping them up and down?

If it helps you feel better, our one broody took 2 weeks to teach her chicks to follow her up and down the ladder. I'd wait til dark and then put the whole group up in the coop. They learned to follow her down first-- took the first week plus-- and now at two weeks they MOSTLY follow her up.

Another broody taught her 4 week olds to climb up to the roost. So cute!

Only thing is, we don't have a grown chicken to teach the young 'uns. These are our first
