My first 2 sets of Chickens I bought as day old chicks. Now I have been buying hatching eggs that I have been hatching in my incubator. This is my last set of Bought eggs for a while. I will try to hatch some of my own eggs in a few month to see how they do.
I've bought all of my chickens as day-olds, shipped from a hatchery. I'm getting ready to start incubating my own and shipped eggs, though. Can't wait to start on that adventure!
I have done all of the above. Ordered day old chicks then discovered ebay eggs! Incubated some silkies that hatched on week before my day olds were delivered. I have also bought a few full grown chickens. Now I am incubating some more including one of my own!
My first trio was given to me as adults in a trade for some ducks..... the next batch came from a hatchery as day old chicks... this spring I am going to be incubating eggs from the hatchery birds
Might sneak in some hatching eggs from some of these wonderful BYC folks too!
I have ordered some adults on Eggbid.com, bought day olds at a feed store, hatched some shipped eggs, picked up some juveniles from a local person...

I really think that it is cheaper to buy them from Meyer hatchery than to incubate them! Think about it! Buy all pullets at like $1.28 a piece. Not many roosters to deal with. No higher electric bill. No cleaning the incubator. No hatching scenarios! It is definitely more rewarding to hatch them but there is still overhead by the time that they hatch.
