How do you calibrate a digital thermometer?

I looked online to try to find out how to calibrate a digital thermometer and the only thing I can find is to put it in a glass of ice water. I can't submerge mine in water.

Is there any other way?

I took mine along with a regular oral thermometer and placed them in water. Can you not put the tip of the digital thermometer in liquid? My digital thermometer was different by 0.2 degrees from the oral (mercury type) thermometer and that's what I have been going with for the past year and a half. I have had great hatches so it worked out.

I put mine in a ziploc bag to keep it from getting wet while I did the ice water test
