How do YOU catch Peafowl?

Hi everyone recently I had to catch up all of my peafowl and treat them for mites. I had Aaron to help me herd them into a small pen that we use as a catch pen. Aaron kept saying maybe we should use the net, but I am more confident using my hands and actually feel more nervous using the net, plus the net seems too clunky.

I know I haven't caught nearly as many birds as most of you have, but I already really like the way I catch them (it seems effective enough) and so thought it might be a good idea to write an article about catching peafowl especially after reading horror stories in the past of people catching a peafowl the wrong way and then the bird struggled and broke its leg.

So I started writing it and I started wondering how other people catch their peas so how do you all do it? Do you have a certain area you corner them in and how do you grab them?

What I do is wear long sleeves and jeans and then get the bird in the small pen and back them into one end of the small pen. There they will pace back and forth and I hover over them with my hands out until I am ready then I quickly put a hand on either side of the bird making sure I am holding their wings down and I crouch down and pull them in close to me to keep them from wiggling so much.

Of course, the easiest way of catching is how I 'caught' Peep to treat him. I tapped on a log, he jumped on it, I treated him and that was it. If only all of them were like that!

I just caught mine at night when they are sleeping, my place is too dark at night they can't see anything so its easy to catch them at night, i just put my left hand under the bird chest and holds his legs with my right hand like the guy in this picture http://www.hopkinslivestock.com/images/Peafowl/Oral Dosing Article/oral_d1.jpg

I know some people don't prefer catching peafowls at night cause they might jump and broke their necks but mine are calm, they never jumped high at night when i try to catch them.
