How Do You Clean Up After Illness?

I am returning the sick birds I recently purchased. How do you clean up after an illness? I will bleach the waterer and food bin and clean all the bedding out of the coop...how should I clean the coop itself of feces? I will air it out for the day as well.

I would use a "quat" sanitizer (quaternary ammonium). You can usually purchase gallon jugs of quats at feed/farm stores. Generally what you do is dilute it according to instructions, apply it to surfaces that have already been scrubbed with soap and rinsed, leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse it off. Quats are great for bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. and they're generally really safe (as long as you follow the label directions).
