How do YOU clean your styrofoam incubator??

Im a first time hatcher, and a first time noticer a a stinky bator! As hatch progressed, I left 2 in while 3rd was hatching, and began to notice a STINK! Is that normal? Its an LG with airfan. I still have one egg in the pipping stage, but i'm woriied the smell ='s bacteria.

How does everyone else clean their bator after the hatch is over? I dont have a clue, and would love some 'real world' experience advice.

I clean with hot water and foaming dial and then a day out in the Florida sun...

I use colorox and a scrub brush then sun it between every hatch and maintain very high hatch rates.The smell you had is normal stinky little fuzzy butts from the moment they hatch but sure are cute

You need to be more concerned about the addiction you have now started for your self...there is no cure other than another bator..then another then before long you will have 5 turners running non stop and a hatcher hatching every 4-5 days

my next hatch has 55 eggs I'm TRYING to turn off a bator but it just doesn't happen

I use clorox too.... got to get rid of the stinkies

Honestly, I cant think of a better addiction!!!

I was worried a scrub brush would damage the foam and the clorox was toxic, but now I know better! I'll use a soft bristtled brush + clorox.

I use a soft bristle brush with hot water and dish washing liquid.I then rinse it good and use a diluted bleach rinse to disinfect it.I then dry it in the sun until it doesn't have a smell to it.

I used Mean Green Super Strength cleaner once.That stuff got it very clean;but the chemical cleaner odor lasted a long time.It didn't affect the hatch,though.

I have a Hovabator 1602N.

i dont know if its just me, but i love that hatching smell

but eventually i clean it with dish soap and hot water. i also clean the water dishes and thermometers with soap too because pieces of shell and fuzz gets on them because of the fan. its annoying with the styrofoam because there are still stains which make me think that its still dirty

I bleach wash mine and USED to let it air dry in the sun... until the geese thought it would be a tasty snack

. It now just gets to air dry in the house or up high. I was able to patch it back up with spare styrofoam and tape, lol.

I was planning on cleaning it out with some soap and rinse in a clorox rinse, then place in the dishwasher (just the bottom) with no soap so it can steralize with the high dishwasher temps.

Does that sound like a good plan?
