How do You Collect Eggs?

Since we collect eggs several times a day, we just use whatever is handy. A basket, our hands, my shirt, an empty feed scoop...

Never heard feed scoop before....

I’ve used a feed scoop....
I prefer using a basket, but I forget it occasionally, so I then use whatever’s laying around the coop. Definitely risky to use pockets. Nothing worse than finding a cracked egg a day later.
I’ll use my shirt, hands, feed scoop, and random containers I for some reason have at the coop

Yeah, I've found eggs in the pocket of my winter coat when I put it back on and busted a few in pockets. I take an egg carton or a pail out with me. Occasionally I use my shirt tail, but then I don't have a free hand to close up the gate. The apron sounds like a good idea. When I carry a container, the chickens mob me, thinking that I have something for them to eat.

True, I once even had some in my breast pocket and forgot until I was grinding corn....

Hey @FortCluck how are you liking your egg apron?

I used it once... we had cocci hit our little chicks. I bought a few from someone and they must’ve had a different strain or something and it wiped out half my chicks. So I haven’t been permitted to go into the big flocks run. I can just look at them through the fencing.

This is my egg apron.

ETA: It ties off just above my hips and stops just above my knees so I don't have to worry about bouncing the eggs around and cracking them when I'm walking. It's got two rows of pockets. Each pocket is deep enough to hold two standard size eggs.

That is so cute. I made an apron with pockets to hold my cloths pins when hanging wash on the line. Ithink I could revamp it for eggs easily. And I already have chicken fabric, don't you all???

I put them on my shirt then hold up my shirt to make a little holder for them. I do have a basket and a bucket, but I never use them. In the winter I put them in my sweatshirt pocket or coat pocket and sometimes forget them... Until I crack them and laugh hysterically at how dumb it is to do that.

ETA: I have about a lot of hens and pullets. I have lost count. We aren't getting many eggs right now because we have the Broody Apocalypse going on

“Broody Apocalypse”. Hahaha!
