How do you cull a chicken?

Hi,

I had to cull one of my hens after she was mauled by a dog, and while I was able to put her down gently by overdosing her on sleep aid, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on how to humanely kill a chicken.

A quick search on here should yield several threads discussing this. Many feel the quickest is to chop off the head or slit the throat. Rough on the human but instant for the chicken.
