I looked at heaps of plans, and since we can only have 6 chickens where we live, and also only have a normal sized suburban backyard, we went with the Garden Coop design. Cost about $30 for the plans, but I've been really impressed with how easy they are to follow, and they've saved me hours and hours of stressing since I started this project knowing absolutely nothing about building.

The design is big enough for 8 chickens, has loads of ventilation and the way the walls are designed you can easily put extra insulation between them as needed.
