Thank you for all of your experience! This will really help. I also believe that raising chickens for eggs and meat is giving the chicken a better life, and in the end a better death...You all are great! Thanks!!! We can't have Roo's here where I live so we might have to do some "dispatching" sooner than later if I can't sell them.

One thing that I think will help when I butcher my first batch of meat birds (5 weeks old right now) and that helped when I butchered 3 RIRs last fall, is to know that their major purpose is to create fertilizer for the garden and to remember that they're being raised for food. Also that I've given them a very good life, especially compared to almost all the animals that I've eaten over the course of my life. When the time comes, they'll be killed in cones in a reverent and as humane as possible way.
