how do you entertain your chickens?

Treats,I put short sticks that can fit in the chicken yard and stick the between the holes in the fences and there you go a nice roost(they are in love with them!).Also I let them free range ALL the time.

mine have always had loud radio and i know they like it as they sit by the open garage door in the fence to hear it...and it keeps ground predators AWAY..they dont like people talking and singing when hunting ya know...jeff

Sprinkle scratch on any ant hills that need to be erradicated... or any weedy areas that you want to have cleared up. It's a two-fer. Gets rid of the weeds/ants, and keeps the chickies busy for hours.

Set a Japanese beetle trap in the run. You can keep it closed, and periodically dump the beetles into a bucket of water: "Bobbing for Beetles". Or you can leave the bottom of the trap opened, and the chickens will hang out under the trap catching any beetles that fall out. Be sure they can't use the beetle pheromone.

Invite them to watch your cat with a mouse.

Send your 7 y.o. child out to read them a book.

Potatoes?

Only the green peels. They like to eat mashed potatoes and even baked potatoes. You can feed them the remains of baked potatoes with the skin...they prefer that the skin was cooked with a bid of olive oil and salt. They love it. Just don't feed them raw or green peels or potatoes.
