How do you find what you're looking for?

Well the "bug" has officially set in and I'm ready to get serious about the quality and kind of birds in my flock.

So how do you find EXACTLY what you're looking for to get to that "ideal flock"?

Now, I'll always have a mixed flock of who knows what - but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my LF cochins ... and would really like to get serious about breeding them - ideally - to try for mille fleur standard cochins

... I have some adorable mille fleur bantam's that hatched this past weekend.

So what has worked for those of you looking for very specific birds? ...

And even more specific, I'd really prefer not to ship chicks (just for my own good conscience). So that limits me to eggs or driving distance birds ... is that outrageous to find? ... Have I set my hopes too high? ...

... ... Any insight in appreciated!

... I realize this is going to be a slow & long process and I'm kind of excited about that (hopefully)

... but feel free to knock me into reality if this is ridiculously far fetched...

Not far fetched at all.

Most breeders don't sell chicks unless it is local anyway.

As for looking for the ideal flock, it really is all about the SOP - THEN once you have that down, go for some of your own taste, too. (for example, a Marans must lay an egg that rates 4 or better on the scale - Mine must lay 6 or better. )

When looking for a starter from other breeders though, it is always best to look at all their photos, know the breed you're looking at, ask questions, see what other buyers say, etc.

Yes, it has worked for me to look for very specific birds. Just remember to look everywhere, and have patience.

aaahhh patience is key - (probably my biggest obstacle) ... I operate quite a bit on impulse ...
