How do you get lavender into a line?

Do you need to GET lavender to produce it or is there a way in the blue gene to express it??

lavender and blue are two different genes. If you want lavender you have to breed to a lavender bird. None of the first generation (F1) will show the gene. If you take F1 and either cross them back on the lavender parent or on each other, you will get either half lavender, half split to lavender babies, or if you breed them together you will get a quarter lavender, three quarters not showing lavender, and two thirds of those non-lavenders will be carriers, one third will be NON carriers, so you will have no way of knowing which is which, so you will have 3/4 "unknown splits" which can still be valuable if you have a lavender to cross them back on.

The f1 birds will all be split lav. If you breed the f1 offspring back to a lav, you'll get 50% visual lav, 50% split lav. When breeding f1 split lav x f1 split lav you'll get 25% lav, 50% split lav, 25% without the lav gene. So breeding f1 back to visual lav is the better way to go because that way you know that all the birds that are not visual lav will carry the gene, where if you breed f1 x f1, you'll have no way of knowing whether you have a split lav or a bird not carrying the gene at all.

that was my problem, I was planning a lav project and the lav bird is a breed "similar" but not good enough to keep using as it's type isn't exactly what I need.
thanks for the chart. it seems the "cleanest" way to acheive the color and not give up too much on type, thanks for posting it
