Some people use this as a point of pride… seriously. Like drinking from a dirty rubber hose is some kind of scout badge of honor that proves they had a better childhooda garden hose left to bake in the sun all day![]()

I thought it was just meant like "we were built tougher back in our day".Some people use this as a point of pride… seriously. Like drinking from a dirty rubber hose is some kind of scout badge of honor that proves they had a better childhood![]()
There are other ways to express that sentiment. The hose comments, and the riding with no seatbelt comments, downplay real dangers and mock those who take them seriously, for a false sense of toughness that’s really just unnecessary recklessness.I thought it was just meant like "we were built tougher back in our day".
But the seatbelt chafesThere are other ways to express that sentiment. The hose comments, and the riding with no seatbelt comments, downplay real dangers and mock those who take them seriously, for a false sense of toughness that’s really just unnecessary recklessness.
I never said anything about seatbelts. There are other ways to express that sentiment. The hose comments, and the riding with no seatbelt comments, downplay real dangers and mock those who take them seriously, for a false sense of toughness that’s really just unnecessary recklessness.
You seem a lot more upset over this than I am, so I don’t know who’s getting offended easily.I never said anything about seatbelts.
Is drinking out of a hose a "real danger"? I'd say that's a subjective term. Some surely think it is a real danger while others wouldn't see it that way at all. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I don't know anyone that died or became sick from it so on my danger scale it's low.
If I say I grew up drinking from garden hoses and it never hurt me that's not mocking anyone. Now days people seem to like feeling offended so they use words like "moking". Anything said could be looked at in a way to be offensive if one tries hard enough.
You say "unnecessarily reakless" I could say that's mocking us that did that in our youth.
It's not though. It's just growing up in different times. It's being young. We were reckless in my day and the youth of today is reckless.
Just cause someone says they drank out of hoses doesn't mean it's a jab at you anymore then you believing there's a serious risk in doing so is a jab at me.
I'm not upset in the least. Not sure how you're getting that but no not upset or offended. It's all good. You seem a lot more upset over this than I am, so I don’t know who’s getting offended easily.
There is a solution for that!
