how do you get the hens in the coop at night?

We also turn on a light in their coop, partly to draw them in because they tend to want to really wait until the last minute - and I'm talking about our older gals! Partly because ours need extra light now to keep laying. Eventually, ours go in anyway...but sometimes to speed up the process I need to rattle a treat like grain in a noisy container while giving their signature "treat call" and they come running, except for the nut case. After a few days of doing this grain thing, now they go into the coop (if I happen to be out there) and mill around me, noisily nagging me for their treat.
The three most important things to a hen are food, food, and food, in that order!

I agree with the previous posts. I also have my feeder and waterer in the coop. Also, I would give them some of their favorite treats in the evening when I wanted them to go into the coop and they would come into the coop for their treats, then I shut the pop door. Now, they go in every evening before dark like clockwork. Also, I have a low watt red light that I leave on. Now I leave the pop door open and their run gate open and they can come and go in and out 24/7 but thet stay in the coop on their roosts at night and about 5am they go out into their run.
