How do you guys do it?!

Not for button quail. Buttons can escape 1"x1" mesh with NO difficulty. You'd need 1/2" and I haven't seen any of the stackers with less than an inch.

I lost one of the little buggers in my house for six hours last night because it got out of a cockatiel cage with just over 1/2" spacing. Found him eventually, hiding in the Serama cage under the food dish.

Yeah those are probably measurements for natural breeding pens and coop areas or something. I've got 18 chickens in a coop smaller than that. LOL Then again the chickens are free ranged. So that's only night time.

I know many people who rear buttons under hookbills in aviary settings, both the parrots and the quail are very used to one another. They actually can figure out there is no threat, especially if they grow up that way.

Yes the odd thing happens. But aviaries offer a ton of space for the wee guys, and fallen seed is treasure to them. They're fun to watch bolt for a particularly favorite bit dropped. It's got to be like manna from heaven - Yay cookies!!!

I would never again risk the life of my buttons by putting them in with hookbills other then tils
Never a lovebird for sure they are way to aggressive and as I said earlier a budgie tore up a hen and that was after being together for over two weeks.

I kept 7-8 quail (only a couple were males) in 1/2" wire cages that were 12x12x30" just fine. Sure, they'd love more room than that, but you don't HAVE to have that much. I wouldn't put any more than that, though.
