How do you guys get over it???

I don't butcher birds but have had to cull a few ill birds. It does get easier with time and experience. Hope you feel better emotionally

im new to all this chicken stuff and i grown attched to them and i named almost every one i lost 12 chickens 3 died the rest were given away

I try to remember that I gave them a loving home where they got to be "chickens" rather than caged and confined. They had more in their shorter life than some poor chickens do ever.

I don't name them, and I don't let myself get attached. I don't make pets out of them. I remind myself that we have them for eggs and meat. Raise chickens long enough and it will get easier.

I gave away 2 roosters and wish I hadn't. In Louisville, you can only have 1 per half acre. I have 1 1/4 so am only allowed 2... and a 1/4. I guess maybe I can have 2 regular sized roos and a banty. Lol, I gave mine away so my daughter could keep hers

Think of the flock, not the individual birds, I love having a flock, I love the eggs, but not pets of individual birds. To keep my flock healthy and strong, I have to remove birds so that I can add birds. And, having had animals all my life, I know that my life span is probably going to be greater than theirs, just a fact. I miss some of them, but just for a while. I just really like having the flock.
