How do you handle unwanted evangelists who knock at your door?

I wonder what the OP is going to think when they return and find their thread hijacked...

I spend a lot of time alone (I have no choice really) but I've grown used to it over the years

Ok...guilty....but it seemed the odds were stacked against JW's...so I wanted to tell a little "truth" about it. Plus it amuses me to think that with everything everyone tries to do to "shock/discourage/insult/whatever" the JW's...they think it works....but if you know the witnesses,and I mean KNOW them....you know it doesn't dissuade,discourage,change or bother them enough to stop the preaching work.
I will post that anyone who is wanting the witnesses to not call on them...I would tell them your beliefs,and challenge theirs.If the time is inconvenient, tell them a better time for them to come.If that doesn't suit you...keep hiding

or ask them to put you on the Do Not Call list.Make it clear you don't want to talk.If they keep coming,maybe there is a reason...and you might benefit from listening

I agree with the first part,they're always talking about how it's natural for there to be opposition

And to keep going at it.
So they're not going to be discouraged by any nasty words.
They have a do not call list? I didn't know that.

I have told the locals that I do not care what they choose to believe, but do not bother me at home/work. Because more would like to live here, they do leave me alone.

Well I didn't flee. I just didn't get much advice about my situation.

I HAVE tried discussing my beliefs with them, but of course they don't want to hear that. They're here to convert me, not listen to my views in Buddhism!

Plus, trying to convert is against the nature of Buddhism, we just don't do it. So short of a chat, it's difficult to have much interaction. And quite honestly, many JW books are horribly outdated. Onetime one pulled out a book on other religions and told me that I "worship a false god named Buddha". How do you have a conversation with someone like that? Buddha wasn't a god, never claimed to be, and we don't worship him. I can say that all day long and it doesn't matter because THEIR book says it's true, even though it is not. And I can't keep hiding because of what I mentioned, I need to see who is at the door. I wish they would respect our differences and just stop knocking, but they won't.

I thought of that, but haven't done it. Maybe I should find out where the local hall is and ask them that way. I try so hard to be polite, but don't feel like I'm getting that same respect in return. It's frustrating. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm fully expecting they will ignore my sign and knock anyway. And I mean it too, I'm kind of a hippie, I really don't want them wasting all that paper!!
