How do you insure and collect insurance on shipped eggs?

I did and the eggs weren't even insured.

But I don't want your money. Just want to show that it is possible, but they'll usually only fall for it once. They lost an entire box of eggs sent via Priority with delivery confirmation. It went missing in transit for 13 days. They refunded my money for shipping and I sent replacement eggs. I did a lot of yelling on what good is the del conf if it isn't used for anything to track the pkg and Priority is supposed to be a 2-3 day service, blah, blah. Anyways, I basically told them it is false advertisement what they put on their web site and fraud in the eyes of many. I filed a formal complaint in Washington DC as well after I had the refund in hand. They need to correct their malfunctions and well, they still haven't.

i was told eggs r way to fragile and they will not honor it at all even if the postal workers mess up and sell u insurance for them. they never said anything to us about perishable items only do to the fact of how breakable they were since it was worse than china being shipped.

Delivery confirmation is just that, a delivery confirmation.
Not a tracking number.

I sell allot on eBay and it drives me nuts when customers ask for a tracking number for items sent 1st. class and priority. No such thing.

OK then, from your post I see they refunded your shipping costs, buy they did not refunded the VALUE of the eggs insured or not insured and they never will.

My offer still stands.

I was talking about USPS paying for the value of lost or damaged eggs not just refunding lousy shipping costs.

my understanding is this:

they cannot/will not insure against breakage of hatching eggs.

they can (and will if you insist) insure against failure to deliver/loss of package, but only for the cost of the original postage.

i'm inclined to believe they treat insured packages better, so from now on, will insure my eggs against loss *shrugs* couldn't hurt

I sent out a shipment last week of Duck eggs and it was very well marked as Hatching Eggs Fragile This end Up ect on all four sides and top with address. My PO Insured the package and I had Delevery Conformation. I requested to the buyer to open the package at her PO as to have PO confirm it either damged or damage free. Her Postal worker there even gave me kudos for my packing job. All went well I had it insured for the amount of purchase + $ 5.00. No Problems

Delivery Confirmtion has a tracking number on it that you can type into the track & confirm area on the USPS. If thats not "tracking" I do not know what is.

Ask any postal employee.
You are exactly the kind of customer that would drive me nuts,
when the number shows nothing on the USPS website.
Why do you think it is called a delivery confirmation?

Sometimes, yes a postal employee will scan a package in route.
And it will show it's progress.
Most of the time they do not. Heck, sometimes they don't even scan it when it's delivered.
