How do you keep your flock happy in the Winter?

I love the Christmas trees idea! I did that last year with my sister's tree, and they loved it! As for the hay, I give my hens Orchard Grass hay periodically throughout the winter when they dont have access to grass, and they love it. Haven't had an issue with it.

Oh! Good to know. I have been thinking about trying it out!

I have alfalfa that I throw into the coop from time to time and the like scratching around in it. I mean we are having a mild winter here in Oregon, the chickens are enjoying over 70 degrees right now . It is also sort of funny because when I read the original post I saw that it said 6 chickens and I was like, "I have six chickens too! Wonder if any of them are the same breed?"and then I look at the bottom and I also have a Brahma, a Wyandotte, a Lavender Orpington, and an Olive Egger. (The other one is a Black Copper Maran).

I have lavender orpingtons and olive eggers and it was also 70 degrees today! I'm in WA and it was such a nice sunny break after all the rain we just had. But yes! I think I will try hay this coming winter.
